Oundle Veterinary Surgery was established in the 1930’s and has been on its current site in South Road since the 1970’s.
The practice was taken over by the husband and wife team of Nick & Karen Park in 2003 and has since undergone extensive and ongoing
refurbishments to ensure the practice can continue to offer the very best possible standards of care and attention to our clients
and patients.
The practice is traditionally owned and run as very much part of the local community, retaining its friendly and caring approach whilst
striving to continue to improve and develop the standards and services offered.
Our aim is to provide a high level of clinical care in a friendly and relaxed environment. Continuity of care is essential to our
approach so will we always endeavour to offer you a consultation to see the vet of your choice at a time that suits you.

The front of the practice has been extensively refurbished to provide an open and spacious waiting room with three fully air conditioned consulting rooms. We stock a full range of life stage and speciality diets, and quality accessories for your pet.
Please ask our friendly reception team for more information about any of these products. We provide a full range of clinical services to keep your pet happy and healthy. Some of our main services are detailed below but please do not be afraid to ask if the service you require is not mentioned.
Veterinary Services
Our experienced and caring team of vets have your pets needs at the forefront of their minds and offer help and advice to keep your pet happy and healthy. We insist on regular continuing professional development, membership of multiple veterinary organizations and journals, and hold regular practice meetings to ensure we all keep up to date with the latest thinking.
We are keen to pass on our high standards to younger prospective members of the profession and so often have work experience or veterinary students seeing practice with us. Please let us know if you would prefer not to have a student in your consultation. Should things go wrong our diagnostic tools include xrays, ultrasound and blood pressure monitoring. Our in house lab offers same day results on a wide range of blood tests as well as allowing us to carry out urine analysis and microscopy.
This means that your pet’s illness can be diagnosed and treated rapidly, giving them the possible chance of a fast and full recovery. We have dedicated operating theatres for carrying out surgical procedures. Heat mats and soft bedding are used to keep animals warm during procedures, and appropriate levels of pain relief are administered where necessary. We routinely offer pre-anaesthetic blood screens to check the health of the liver and kidneys in older patients requiring a general anaesthetic.
By doing so we can identify higher risk patients and out measures in place to make their anaesthetic as safe as possible. Most areas of surgery are offered including soft tissue and dentistry. Our team of veterinary nurses are also able to offer a wide range of services. Again we are a veterinary nurse training practice and so often have trainees or prospective students from the local area.
Clinics offered include:
As well constantly striving to expand and improve the services on offer we continue to invest in the facilities of the practice including:
Phase 2 of the redevelopment at the back of the practice is due to start in early 2008 and the plans are well advanced to include new separate cat and dog ward areas with modern spacious kennels, including hospitalisation and isolation facilities. We will also have refurbished and dedicated operating rooms, an imaging suite and a completely refurbished laboratory area. Hospitalised patients will get peace and quiet in a warm comfortable environment speeding their rate of recovery and making their stay more relaxed. Infectious cases will also be able to be isolated from other animals helping to ensure that your pet does not pick up infection from other people’s animals during their stay with us.
We try our very best to offer a cosy comfortable environment for your pet during its recovery, giving you peace of mind in knowing that they are in caring hands.
We have five vets on the clinical team with three full time and two part time clinicians. All the vets are able to offer a first opinion service for companion animals including routine preventative health care and a full range of diagnosis, treatment and surgical interventions where necessary.
The nursing team comprises four qualified veterinary nurses and two trainees. Our nurses are able to answer many day to day questions regarding routine health care, and run highly popular clinics, classes and consultations to help ensure your pet gets the very best advice and care at all stages during their lives.
Reception is run by a team of four staff members. As a first point of contact they are able to offer advice on when an appointment with a vet is needed, as well as being able to answer many day to day questions regarding routine healthcare.
Vets:
Nick & Karen ParkNick & Karen qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in ’96 & ’97 respectively. Nick worked in mixed practice in Somerset for two years after qualifying before enjoying stints as a locum in various parts of the UK, interspersed with travelling to Australia.
There followed a short period in the pet food industry before joining the Oundle practice in 2001, prior to buying the business in 02. Karen worked in mixed practice in Market Harborough before joining Nick in Oundle in 02. Since then the practice has been hugely successful with a huge growth in the number of clients and patients especially on the companion animal side of things. As well as having a young family to keep us on our toes, we look forward to continuing to build the practice’s reputation and success.
Affectionately known as Ray by people who can’t manage the South African pronunciation Reynier joined us in 2000 having qualified from in Province, South Africa in 2000 . Reynier enjoys small animal surgery and is considering taking further qualifications in this area. Outside of work Reynier is married and enjoys an active life-style including skiing, snow-boarding and keeping fit.
Liz MearsHaving returned from maternity leave in August 07 after the birth of her son Liz has enjoyed working part time for the past few months. The imminent arrival of her second child in 08 will no doubt keep her busy!
Riette ZondaghRiette joined us in 2007 and has a special interest in small animal medicine. She is also very keen and skilled in the field of diagnostic imaging. Riette is rarely seen without a smile on her face and her faithful dog Jack by his side. Interestingly he seems to have selective hearing if spoken to in any other language than Afikaans necessitating all of the nurses learning how to say NO! in his own tongue!
