I was born in South Africa, and from as early as I can remember, wanted to be a vet. I studied at the University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort, and thoroughly enjoyed my time there, it was a wonderful environment for animal lovers. Where else could you walk to lectures past the beef and dairy herds, dodging manure in your flip flops, say hello to the calves and kids and greet the ponies over the fence? I was able to treat many varied species including leopards, lions, a gorilla, a tiger and all the domestic species too. After qualifying in 2004 I started at a busy mixed practice in Port Elizabeth.
I saw many and varied cases on a daily basis, it was not unusual to treat a donkey in the car park, or a calf in the boot of someones car! After 3 very intense and exhausting years, I moved to the UK to locum and travel. I locumed in Essex, Oxford and around London and then did an epic trip through Europe, visiting eleven countries.
When I returned I decided to settle down, so took a permanent job treating small animals in Norfolk. I became the lead vet there, and after 7 years felt like I needed a change and a new challenge, so I moved to Oundle. I have a horse, a dog and a cat who keep me very busy when I am not working!
